Yes! Yes! A million times yes

The author really has some strong ties to the West Michigan Whitecaps. His father was one of the 22 winners who selected the nickname before the inaugural 1994 season. The family even made it out to the first game in franchise history, a soggy 5-2 victory if memory serves. At that time the 'Caps were affiliated with the Oakland A's and you could sit on the lawn for three bucks. During an on-field throwing session, the author almost hit former major leaguer Joe Boever in the head with an errant toss. To this day, the glare delivered by Boever is burned in his memory.

But, as we all know, things change. The initial excitement of a semi-pro team coming to town wore off, the Detroit Tigers became the affiliate and the lawn seats are now $7. But with this amazing promotion, the Whitecaps have never been more popular in this galaxy and in those far, far away.

I had almost put behind me the devastating disappointment I expierianced as a almost winner of the "name the team contest". As the tv 13 newscaster announced that the winning name was in fact the west michigan whitecaps, the name i submitted, i was filled with an unexplainable combination of pride and joy! That lasted 3 seconds as they panned to interview the "real" winner who was in the studio already to accept his many prizes. Thanks son for dragging that one out to be relived. PA

@bruce:
The author actually had a class with the son of Whitecaps CEO Lew Chamberlain and cornered the unsuspecting boy one morning about the slight before an overly protective teacher intervened.

actually i'm not all that BITTER about it. So what that i still have the unredeemed "almost winner consolation prize" of a certificate good for free addmision for two to any whitecaps game (excluding post season or special event games)
